Politecnico di Milano offers its students outstanding opportunities in collaboration with other leading universities around the world. 
Below you can find information about remarkable international partnerships available to you.

MEDes is a program of interdisciplinary excellence available only to students enrolled in the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Product, Interior and Communication Design.

The pathway offered by 6 European Design Schools and 1 in the UK, includes two exchange years, the first in the 3rd year of the Bachelor’s degree and the second in the 1st year of the Master’s degree in two of these Schools:

Students in the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano have the opportunity to do a period of study at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, an internationally recognized institute for design, fashion, art, communication and business. This institution is known for its rigorous, unique and adaptable academic program, rich learning opportunities for both academic and industry collaborations, and commitment to research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

GIDE, “Group for International Design Education,” is an international consortium of design universities working together for the purpose of promoting international exchanges and enriching the experience of students in the early years of their education by providing an opportunity to compare skills, themes and design culture of international courses of study.

The group's activities take place during the first semester of the second or third bachelor's year at the partner sites and include:

  • The sharing of study topics in project workshops
  • A workshop and exhibition of the final projects at one of the venues in turn, with the participation of students and faculty

The group is made up of seven partner institutions in Europe with whom you can also have exchange experiences:

CUMULUS is the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media founded in 1990, operating as an association since 2001. It counts 340 members from 61 countries in 2021. The Cumulus Secretariat is based in Helsinki, Finland.

The School of Design at Politecnico di Milano has been a member of the Cumulus network since its founding in 2001, and since 2008, the School of Design has been an active member of the Association's Board: Prof. Collina has been President of the association for 6 years and maintains an active role as International advisor to the Board.

Cumulus is the only worldwide association serving art and design education. It is a forum for collaboration and transfer of knowledge and best practices useful for building international partnerships.

The common goal of all partners is to improve the quality of education through cooperation, exchange of students and teachers including through the response to the European Union Erasmus Program.

Cumulus has been a pioneer in developing joint programs, intensive workshops, projects and biennial conferences. Through summer schools competitions and exhibitions, Cumulus enhances the promotion of young people's talent and increases the visibility of their works, organizes conferences and thematic meetings with CALL that can be consulted on the website.

Through competitions and various activities, Cumulus pursues the goals of the Kyoto Declaration: to stimulate planning, design and research actions toward a more sustainable society.

Thanks to the Cumulus association, the School of Design is also in contact with other world associations such as the World Design Organization, the Interaction Design Association and the Design Research Society.
