Admission to the Master of Science (Laurea Magistrale) programmes of the School of Design for applicants holding a foreign qualification is subject to the prior submission of an application for evaluation.

Application for admission for candidates with an Italian qualification
Admission to the Master of Science (Laurea Magistrale) programmes of the School of Design is subject to the prior submission of an application for evaluation for the 1st semester.
Applications may be submitted by candidates holding a Bachelor's degree (Laurea) obtained from the Politecnico di Milano or from other Universities and Academies.
Students enrolled in the third year of a Bachelor's degree programme who do not meet the requirements for direct admission may also submit an application, provided they have acquired at least:

• 145 CFU/ECTS, for the academic years 2026/27 and 2027/28
• 120 CFU/ECTS, for the academic year 2028/29 and subsequent years

The degree must be obtained by the deadline specified in the timeline of the procedure.

Admission requirements for candidates with an Italian qualification
The admission requirements for the evaluation procedure for candidates with an Italian qualification are:

•  candidates holding or about to complete a Bachelor's degree from the Politecnico di Milano must have a weighted average score equal to or higher than 23/30 (calculated at the deadline for application submission);
• candidates holding or about to complete a Bachelor's degree from other Universities must have a weighted average score equal to or higher than 25/30 (calculated at the deadline for application submission);
• candidates must hold a suitable English language proficiency certificate (to be submitted by the application submission deadline).
Candidates who do not meet these prerequisites will be excluded from the process. Furthermore, candidates who fail to upload their project portfolio (or the alternative documentation specified below) will also be disqualified.

Documents required for candidates with an Italian qualification
Direct admission (Ammissione di diritto)
Students enrolled in Bachelor's degree (Laurea) programmes at the School of Design who apply for admission to their corresponding consecutive Master of Science (Laurea Magistrale) programme, and who meet the criteria for direct admission, do not need to upload any documentation for evaluation. The obligation to submit the English language certificate remains. Admission by evaluation (Ammissione per idoneità)
Students from Bachelor's degree programmes at the School of Design who do not qualify for direct admission must upload the required evaluation documents in digital format when submitting the online application.
The required documents are as follows:
• Project portfolio: applicants from non-design backgrounds may replace the portfolio with an abstract of their bachelor's thesis and/or a report on curricular or extracurricular internship experiences.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Self-certification of the study plan with the weighted average score rounded to the second decimal place: including grades obtained for each course and the relevant Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors (SSD) (only for candidates from other Universities).
• Motivation letter: containing a statement of purpose for each chosen degree programme option.
Documents may be drafted in Italian or English.

The documents required for assessing the application must be uploaded in digital format when submitting the online application.

The documents required are as follows:  

• Project portfolio: for those coming from non-project schools, it is possible to replace the portfolio with an abstract of the degree dissertation and/or a report of curricular internship experiences or extra-curricular experiences (PDF file, max. 20 MB);
• Curriculum (PDF file, max. 4 MB);
• Self-certification of study plan with weighted average rounded to the second decimal place: marks obtained for each teaching and Scientific Disciplinary Sectors (only for candidates from other Universities) (PDF file, max. 5 MB);
• Letter of motivation: containing the application letters for each course option expressed (PDF file, max. 4 MB); 
  Documents can be written in Italian or English.  

Admission is only possible for the first semester.
