Design x Designer 2020

NEW FORMAT

As you all know, the Salone del Mobile has been postponed to next year, as well as all the events scattered throughout the city, including the didactic exhibition of the Politecnico di Milano Design System.

On the dates when the Salone del Mobile should have taken place, as a second option in June, Fuorisalone.it decided to create a digital platform (https://fuorisalone.tv) in which to broadcast series of contents produced by companies and institutions.  The School of Design has thus decided to take part in this online event.

In particular, Fuorisalone TV (https://fuorisalone.tv) will host "video pills" of educational projects from all over the Politecnico di Milano Design System (projects already carried out individually or in groups of students) within the courses at the School of Design, in research / teaching initiatives of the Design Department and in post-curricular courses of Poli.Design.

Fuori Salone TV will be an important showcase where we can highlight the multiple design sectors of our system: from industrial products to fashion, from interior and furniture design to communication, services and brands, transportation and design engineering.

WHO?
Participation is open to all students and former students independently or  supported by teachers. We encourage teachers to work with a careful pre-selection and target the best projects to participate in the selection. We accept all works from courses during the closing semester, the courses held in previous years or final projects (thesis projects). Courses done within workshops and other courses of POLI.design.

HOW?
To take part in the selection, you must introduce a 120-second movie that will be made according to your sensitivity, poetics and representative ability, and which tells a project created within the Politecnico's Design System. The design characteristics, the material qualities and the narrative skills of the project must be represented, using the preferred representative techniques, and including all the information deemed necessary to tell the project (for example, three-dimensional animations, videos of stationary or working prototypes, images of concept or design drawings, mood-board or scenarios).

The video, which will be produced in the original language of the project / activity, must include an initial screen (white font, on a black background) providing the data of the students, the reference teachers and the course title in which the project was developed.

The video will be shared with the Jury through a youtube link.

WHEN?
The youtube link must be included in a text file, together with the data of the students, the teachers of reference and the course in which the project was developed, and must be loaded within the "open" BEEP course called "DESIGNxDESIGNER2020" "(you must register for the course), in the specific delivery folder (" DELIVERY LINK VIDEO DXD-FUORISALONETV), by Sunday 24 May 2020, the deadline for proposals.

The text file should be named like this: Namereferent_Lastnamereferent_personalcodeeferent.txt (e.g. Giuseppe_Garibaldi_10008899.pdf)

The outcome of the selection  will be communicated on May 28, 2020.

The selected projects will be asked to insert at the beginning of their movie a teaser of about 10 seconds that will put the project in the context of the DESIGNXDESIGNERS2020 initiative and to correct any elements of the movie  - All films  will  have to be delivered to Fuorisalone within the first days of June 2020.

All short films will be available for the audience from 15 June 2020 in the on-demand section of the platform, on the digital channel specially created by Fuorisalone.

CRITERIA and JURY
The jury members are  professors from the different disciplines of design  (nominated by the School of Design Dean and the Design Department Head)  and by the event organizers. Finally, remember that this is not a competition but an exhibition selection, therefore the selection criteria will also be based on the quality of the films to be shown, and how the heterogeneity and multidisciplinarity that characterize Design at the Politecnico di Milano are being shown.
